Back to school for National Careers Week

ICG’s Digital Marketing Executive Jodie Moon went back to her old school, Ashton Community Science College to talk about her career so far.

Empowering positive change through careers education was the theme of National Careers Week.

After studying at Ashton Community Science College, followed by an apprenticeship in marketing, I was delighted to go back to my old school and share my journey with others.

I joined colleagues, Simon Couchman, Creative Director, and Julie Hackett, Senior Account Manager, to talk to pupils about the power of marketing and the exciting career opportunities available to all sorts of people whether you are creative, love words or buzz about tech.

We chatted with Year 10 classes studying Creative iMedia. It was great to see their class materials on the wall – from mind mapping and version control to photography and storyboarding.

We delved into different aspects of marketing and explained how they worked on offline and online channels. We talked about the job roles in marketing and all the different opportunities in the North West with leading national and international brands.

I also explained how my studies had led to my role at ICG. I think it’s really important that pupils have some guidance on what jobs are available from a young age.

I even bumped into my graphics teacher, Mr Austin. Graphics was my favourite subject where I achieved an A*!

Since joining ICG, working life has been great. I’m learning so much about digital marketing with training on social media tools and platforms as well as learning from my colleagues about how to support and communicate with clients.

Our thanks go to computing teacher, Mrs Lewis who invited ICG into school.
